Story

Advanced Insulation Systems is a world wide manufacture of subsea and topside based insulation solutions.  For areas that require frequent maintenance or access, they produce a tailor made jet fire rated flexible protection jacket from a variety of custom engineered silicone coated fiberglass materials.  

The custom nature of each jacket, the high cost of material, and the unusual location of many of AIS jobs -- offshore rigs, dessert rigs, etc. -- drove them to create a mobile production facility.  At Carlson Design, we thought this was a great idea and jumped at the opportunity to build and install our PT-60" plotter/cutter and 32' long vacuum table inside a 40' long insulated shipping container.

Results

Advanced Insulation's designers in the UK and onsite are able to take their 3D CAD models for each jacket, flatten, add seam allowances, and export a nested, ready to cut file.  Cutting a full table with maximum material yield can now be completed in 10 minutes where it used to take 60.

Re-cuts and repeat jobs are now easy for anyone to preform with great accuracy and material savings.  AIS can now offer the most precision fit flexible jacket with the fastest turn around on the market.
