Hannuu's Boatyard

Hannu Vartiala developed a whole series of small boats including one-sheet skiffs using hull designer, and gives plans away at Hannu's Boatyard.

Blackfly Camping Dinghy

Bruce Taylor developed this camping dinghy on paper aided by hull designer, "to deepen my understanding of the shape, and simplify the task of calculating bouyancy, waterlines at heel, etc."

Bruce offers free plans of his design.

Hans Friedel's Kayaks

Practice making perfect, Hans Friedel notes on his new kayak (October '99):

"...Here are some pics of my newest kayak. The kayak is made of wall panels and polyester. This time I stapled the patterns to the panels, smarter than gluing. As always the panels fit together like magic.

We have a nice autumn her now, the trees are turning yellow and the air is clear, next weekend I will go on a day trip with some friends."

This is what Hans reported on his new kayak in July '99:

"...my latest kayak it is a fast touring kayak, drawn with Hull designer. I plotted the panels at work in full scale and then I glued them on the plywood. That was not very smart because it took me some time to remove the paper from the sheets.

The plywood sheets fitted together like magic. The building time was less than two weeks."

Han's first kayak using Hull Designer and Autocad. Han's friends are also building another kayak and a tender.

Robert Tyrrell's Planing Dinghy
Robert Tyrrell is building this planing dinghy to his own design using Hull Designer to develop bulkheads and panels.

Burnie's Boats

Burnis Turner of Roscoe, Illinois started with this 8 ft. kayak for his son. Burnis reports that the hull floats higher than Hull Designer predicts (the displacement calculation is conservative.)

2002: "Thanks again for writing such a great piece of software. I just love your program. I have designed and built 2 more since "Son's Kayak". I have 2 seasons on the kayak and it is a great boat. Water line fell right where expected. The lapstrake dinghy is the prettiest boat I have built thus far. She rows great. Still working on the sailing rig.

Jim Mailer's Sea Kayak
Jim Mailer of Helensburg, Scotland (near Glasgow) built these kayaks for himself and wife. One is a Nick Shades design and the other Jim's via Hull Designer. The photo was taken at Ardnamurchan Point, the most Westerly point in Britain.

Gardner Sapp's Jet Boat
Gardner Sapp designed this shallow draft (3.2") boat for use with a jet-ski engine.

Gardner is building with inverse forms - check his website to find out why.

Pekka's Bother's Dinghy
Pekka Tarvainen of Helsinki, Finland (60 deg 10 min N 24 deg 53 deg E) built this dinghy for his brother. Richard Spelling (also of Tulsa, OK) has built another copy of Pekka's Jolla.

Pippo's Caravel
Pippo Bianco of Matera, Italy (40 deg 40 min N 16 deg 37 min E 410 meter above sea level) is building this sailing dinghy with Hulls. Pippo modeled Mertens-Goosens, N.A. Model #102 Caravelle in Hulls to get his output. To earn epoxy money, Pippo studies the atmosphere for the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana.
